Community Education and Outreach & Immigrant-2-Immigrant Program

Refugee Support and Integration Program

Through a partnership with Washington State’s Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Afghan Health Initiative offers culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate support to refugees as they rebuild their lives and integrate into King County communities. This program provides vital information, connections, and resources tailored to meet the unique needs of refugee families.

Key program activities include:

  • Outreach Events & Workshops: Hosting outreach events and workshops to provide educational workshops and community resources to empower refugees with the knowledge and tools for successful integration.

  • Resource Navigation: Assisting clients 1:1 in navigating essential services, helping them access housing, healthcare, employment, and other critical resources.

The Refugee Support and Integration Program empowers refugees with the knowledge, support, and community connections they need to thrive in their new home.

Our Case Management Program will connect you to AHI programs and resources as well as our partner referral network. We can help connect you with:

  • Food Assistance

  • Financial Assistance

  • Emergency funding for newly arrived Afghan refugees

  • Systems Navigation

  • Emergency situation assistance

  • and more

Afghan Health Initiative’s Immigrant-2-Immigrant Community Champions program will connect you to a Community Champion mentor who will help you navigate resources through our established connections and partnerships to ensure your needs are met. AHI Community Champions helps answer your questions, connect you to community and social support and navigate life in the United States.

How are we different from a resettlement agency?

Community Champions are current or former immigrants and refugees who have lived experience navigating the same systems and processes as our clients. Our model follows a culturally familiar peer to peer social support framework.
